Ms. Martin's journey into the world of filmmaking began with the debut of her first short film screening at the Roxbury International Film Festival (2001), igniting a passion that would define her illustrious career. Since then, she has astounded audiences and captivated hearts, leading creative teams to produce unforgettable events for high-profile clients while helming groundbreaking film and large-scale productions.
A true polymath of creativity, her expertise extends far beyond the realm of filmmaking. From a tenure as an Around Town Editor and City Manager for the launch of Rolling Out New York (the nation's largest African American weekly newspaper) to the flourishing success of her Brooklyn based online magazine, Crème, where she interviewed icons such as Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Matt Damon, and Kevin Bacon (City on a Hill). Over the years, Dominga has consistently proven herself as a formidable force in every venture she undertakes.
Ms. Martin's directorial acumen transcends genres, effortlessly navigating through various genres including music videos, documentaries and narrative. Her directorial credits include national projects like a Walmart commercial in collaboration with the 46th Annual NAACP Image Awards and a unprecedented documentary tackling immigration, which was invited to open the 11th Annual African American Women in Cinema Festival in New York City, with an exclusive screening at the United Nations.
In acknowledgment of her contributions to the arts, dominga (AKA TONI) served as Massachusetts' sole Statewide Artist-In-Residence Arts Ambassador from 2019 to 2020, collaborating directly with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She has been recognized with the Governor's Citation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the City of Boston for her outstanding achievements in Arts and Innovation, solidifying her status as a multipotentialite, particularly noted for her innovative endeavors during the pandemic.
A proud alumna of Boston's Youth Outreach Program, the dream of writing for film began at the age of 16 when her work was published in an anthology available in Boston Public Libraries, a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence from a young age. Recent film projects include the docu-series she Directed and Produced for the City of Boston Age Strong Commission in partnership with the MBTA, titled "The Bus Buddy Chronicles," which premiered at the Museum of Fine Arts as an official selection in the 24th Annual Roxbury International Film Festival.
During the pandemic, a shift in focus from directing occurred to assume the role of Director of Programming for The City of Boston's inaugural Open Streets pilot, leveraging her versatile skills to curate culturally-responsive programming for over 20,000 attendees in Roxbury, Jamaica Plain and Dorchester —a remarkable achievement that allowed her to tap back into her Event Producer boots.
Whether managing micro or large scale events, producing an intimate gathering for a Hip Hop icon, to fashion shows or poetry readings to booking celebrity DJs, securing sponsors and venues, her experience in the events industry is vast, and the blue print to her success as a film producer, which further solidifies her position as a visionary leader, carving her own unique path as a master of the pivot.
