Making the transition from journalist to filmmaker can be challenging; however, Dominga has pivoted seamlessly.
Dominga's writing career began as a journalist in New York City where she's written for ESSENCE, VIBE, Blackfilm.com and helmed her very own on-line publication as Editor and Co-Founder for 10 years. No stranger to the red carpet, covering entertainers in Music, Fashion and Film or traveling domestically and internationally for press junkets, Dominga has experienced both sides of the media spectrum with the ability to intersect multiple artistic worlds, including the world of film critics as a member of the Women's Film Critics Circle.
She has booked interviews with the world's top influencers, in addition to directing/producing red carpet content featuring top tier celebrities, including; Beyonce, Jay-Z , Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Diddy, Spike Lee (and the list goes on!).
Her defining moment shifting from journalist to filmmaker was sharing the NYC PIX 11 News spot with Cori Murray, (Entertainment Director of ESSENCE Magazine) re: "Diversity Behind the Camera". Truly a full circle moment after being hired by Cori years prior for her first article as a writer in ESSENCE Magazine (2013).
Dominga's inspiration for writing was sparked at the age of 16, in her hometown of Boston, MA. after being selected to participate in a city wide anthology. Her first poem was published in the book "Neighbors Talk in Roxbury, Dorchester and Jamaica Plain." The book is found in Boston Public Libraries.
During the pandemic, Dominga temporarily shifted her focus from directing to assume the role of Director of Programming for The City of Boston's inaugural Open Streets pilot, leveraging her versatile skills to curate culturally-responsive programming for over 20,000 attendees in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain—a remarkable achievement that further solidifies her position as a visionary leader, carving her own unique path by putting community impact, first.
